4 challenges for managing recurring gifts – and how to overcome them
Many nonprofits and higher education institutions list recurring gifts among their highest priorities. Whether they are monthly or another interval, the reliable support helps organizations take on bigger, more impactful projects.
However, you should be aware that managing recurring donations is a bit more challenging than standard, one-time donations. Here, we look at some of these obstacles and how you can prevent them from becoming a burden.
Securing credit card information
For a standard one-time donation, a credit card is only charged when your donor submits the gift. When it recurs, however, a complication is added. To charge the card monthly, your organization will require ongoing access to its information.
For obvious reasons, there are many difficult requirements for storing credit card data. To do so, an organization would need to go through a complex, expensive process to meet the Payment Card Industry (PCI) standards.
